
Gandhi Medical College (GMC) has assumed a significant role in terminal as well as sub-qualifying medical doctors as its Medical and Health College is serving the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, as well as adjoining districts. History and Evolution Established: 1954 Location: Musheerabad, Secunderabad, Telangana Initial Establishment: This started as a traditional infirmary with 3 wards in 1851 and rapidly grew into a Cantonment from its initial 95 beds by 1900 more wards were added By 1913, it began its operations under the name King Edward Memorial Hospital which developed into a teaching institution of Gandhi Medical College for the year 1958. First MBBS Batch: The year 1959 saw the first passing out of the course. Educational Programs Gandhi Medical College offers various programs including; Undergraduate Courses: MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). The college was granted accreditation for its undergraduate degree in the year 1961. The Target level for the number of students that opt for medicine was increased from 100 to 150 in the year 1999. Postgraduate Courses: MD/MS, DM/M.Ch in a variety of specialties. Allied Health Sciences: B.Sc in medical laboratory and other related paramedical studies. Achievements and Distinctions First Open Heart Surgery Centre: The college has an honour of being the first heart surgery centre in open style in the united state of Andhra Pradesh. Cath Lab Facilities: It became the first institute in the country that provided cath lab facilities for training dm cardiology students. Facilities and Services Hospital Services: The associated Gandhi hospital has all the facilities including trauma care, Out Patient Department services, imaging and organ transplantation. Daily average number of patients in different O P D S' 2,750 patients. Student Facilities: There is a Library, a gym, hostels, tennis, basketball, volleyball courts, and a cricket ground. Anti-Ragging and Complains Committees: Various committees have been formed to maintain security and create a conducive academic environment including anti ragging cell, national service scheme cell, Internal Complaints Committee and Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college.
